In an armed robbery that took place in Bakersfield, California, the store owner and his son quickly found themselves up against a few armed robbers.

The store owner had some things that he did correctly, such as being armed, but his biggest –and deadliest– mistake was not keeping a round in the chamber.

Not having a round in the chamber cost him his life, and the life of his son.

In the video above, you can see the store owner handing over his wallet to the armed robbers. One tip to point out in this situation is to, if possible, throw the wallet away from you so that the bad guy can divert his or her attention to the thrown wallet instead of yourself. This, in many instances, can give you the advantage of drawing your firearm and firing that first shot.

Instead in the video, the store owner hands it directly to the bad guy. Shortly after, the owner sees an opportunity to draw his firearm but before he can fire, he is seen attempting to pull the slide back and chamber a round. This attempt, unfortunately, did not work.
