Tragedy struck the small town of Hayden, Idaho shortly after Christmas this year when a two-year-old toddler gained access to his mother’s concealed handgun and shot her at what appears to have been point-blank range, killing her instantly.

Veronica J. Rutledge, 29 was shopping at the local Wal-Mart when she left her two-year-old toddler son unattended in the shopping cart along with her new concealed carry purse. The toddler unzipped the secret compartment where Rutledge had her 9mm pistol, and when she returned to the cart, he shot her in the head.
