The Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security recently conducted a study entitled “Law Enforcement Assessment of the Violent Extremism Threat.”

As the title suggests, the study surveyed a total of 382 U.S. law enforcement agencies to determine what they perceived as the biggest threat to their communities in terms of violent extremists.

Overwhelmingly atop the list were anti-government extremists.

According to the study:

Of these 382 law enforcement agencies, 74 percent reported anti-government extremism as one of the top three terrorist threats in their jurisdiction; 39 percent listed extremism connected with al Qaeda or like-minded terrorist organizations. Environmental extremism was identified as a top threat by a third of the agencies.
