Rick Ector Speaks at Detroit Councilman’s Forum on Gun Violence

On Wednesday evening, August 15th, Rick Ector took part in a panel discussion in the city of Detroit. The discussion was organized by Mr. James Tate, a city councilman for District 1.

The name of Tate’s organizing group is called the Community Accountability Network (C.A.N.). The forum discussion organized by C.A.N. was entitled “Gun Violence Prevention Community Forum.”

The panel was comprised of a diverse body of speakers. Participants included a woman who lost her child to violence, a couple of reformed bad guys who turned their lives around, a medical doctor from a local hospital, a community program founder who fosters communication between crime victims and their victimizes, and me – a former crime victim who became a firearms instructor and gun rights advocate.

During my stint at the microphone I shared how I was robbed at gun-point and became a firearm instructor in the aftermath. In addition I also shared how my annual program for women, which trains ladies how to operate handguns, had grown from an initial group of 50 ladies to almost 700 ladies in this annual event.
