It’s all fun and games until someone threatens murder…

Officers with the Bryson City Police Department in North Carolina were following a vehicle thought to be driven by a suspect in a criminal case Saturday night when they observed three men sitting on a park bench outside a bar at the corner of Main and Everett streets.

As the police car drove by, the men shouted, “F— the police. Let’s kill us a cop!”

Police say the men took off on foot, and across the town square, headed straight toward the front steps of the police department.

Sergeant Aaron Smith said he and another off-duty officer were at the station for a training exercise confronted the three men, one of whom is a Lieutenant in the Army, and held them at gun point until backup arrived.

“That absolutely appalled me,” Sargent Smith said. “He’s supposed to be protecting us in wars and representing our county.”

Forty-nine-year-old John Ward, an Army Lieutenant, was charged for being intoxicated and disruptive, resisting a public officer and inciting a riot, according to Sargent Aaron Smith. Sargent Smith said his two nephews, 23-year-old Samuel Ward and 22-year-old Houston Ward, were also charged for being intoxicated and disruptive.
