The NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) recently was quoted that they were filing a lawsuit against the City Of Seattle for its approved sales tax that adds $25 on each firearm and 5 cents for each round of ammunition sold.

The tax was labeled a “gun violence tax” and is currently being fought by the NSSF and other pro-2nd Amendment groups. Seattle Mayor Ed Murray has given his seal of approval in support of the tax.

A letter was mailed to the mayor from the NSSF pleading with him to veto the tax, and giving him word that if the tax became law “NSSF will have no alternative but to file a lawsuit” against this unlawful regulation. Not only does it violate Washington state’s preemption statute that blocks cities on regulating sale of firearms, it also places undue tax burdens on people exercising their second amendment right.

“This ordinance will do little to promote public safety and instead will place an undue burden on both federally licensed firearms retailers and law-abiding citizens who want to purchase firearms, particularly people in less well-off circumstances,” said Lawrence G.
