A 55-year-old man who fatally shot his own son Sunday afternoon in Donelson, Tennessee, will not face charges, as reports indicate the man acted in self-defense.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. outside of Brentnol James’ residence just outside of Nashville. Authorities say James and his son, 18-year-old Kobe Hoyle, became engaged in an argument, but the argument eventually turned physical. At some point during the altercation, James shot Hoyle, who was pronounced dead at the scene. James, who was left with facial injuries, told police he believed Hoyle meant to rob him.
Details on the incident remain scarce, and the investigation is ongoing, but according to a press release, after consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, the Nashville Police Department chose not to file charges against James at this time.
