With spring turkey season just around the corner, OSG senior digital editor Lynn Burkhead was all ears as Steve Nelson of Winchester Ammunition talked about the new Winchester Xtended Range Bismuth turkey load at Industry Day at the Range prior to the start of SHOT Show 2018.

Built on the performance legacy of the company’s previous Xtended Range loads, this year’s Bismuth version utilizes ShotLok Technology and Bismuth to give turkey hunters – and waterfowlers and upland wingshooters – a high-performance load to use in places where lead shot isn’t permitted.

Thanks to a density that is greater than steel, bismuth brings superb penetration right off the bat. Add in Winchester’s ShotLok Technology and the result is a shot load that doesn’t fracture, hits downrange with a superb pattern, and delivers great energy to the target.

In fact, the company says that the new Xtended Range Bismuth turkey load puts twice the number of pellets into a 20-inch circle at 60-yards.
