black aspiring cop rejected by naacp in legal fight over gun rights

“Basically, like, I’m not getting shot by a police officer so they’re not going to come out and defend me,” said Steffon Josey-Davis, a black man who had aspired to be a police officer himself before getting into a legal fight over his firearm.

The NAACP has refused to help Davis, and the young man has reason to be upset over the obvious hypocrisy in the group.

Davis had aspired to be a cop and fight crime in his city in New Jersey. But in 2013, Davis was pulled over in a routine traffic stop. He was then charged with a second-degree felony for having a legally owned firearm in his glove compartment.

Davis did not conceal the fact that he had a gun in the vehicle and told the police officer that he had a gun in the glove compartment. The gun was then seized without mention of any charges. The gun was loaded as Davis was a security guard at the time.

Instead of taking 5-10 years in prison Davis took a plea for a second-degree felony, and it ruined any chances of him becoming a police officer in the future.
