BALLSTON SPA, NEW YORK — A man who shot and killed his wife last year while cleaning his firearm has plead guilty to the charge of negligent homicide.

Lake George schools science teacher Eric Rosenbrock pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, a Class E felony, in the shooting death of his wife Ashley last year.

Rosenbrock chokes up as he pleads guilty to causing the death of his wife in front of Hon. James Murphy.

With the guilty plea, Rosenbrock will avoid jail time and instead receive 5 years probation.

There are very few incidents that we report on where a person is shot while a firearm is being cleaned, and that’s of course a good thing.

Whenever we’re cleaning our firearms, we should always be clearing them first. This attitude of “it’s not loaded” or “I’m pretty sure it’s not loaded” is a child’s mindset when it comes to firearm safety.

Breaking the rules of firearm safety are what get people injured and killed, and there is absolutely no excuse for it ever happening.
