Liberty university will allow students to carry firearms in residence halls

In a recent announcement, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, revealed that it will be ending a rule that prohibited students from having firearms in the residence halls.

The school’s president says these new measure are going into effect in effort to increase campus safety.

The announcement was made by Jerry Falwell Jr. to a gathering of several thousand students who overwhelmingly applauded the decision. The school already offers free concealed training course for students who are at least 21-years-old and are interested in learning how to defend themselves and fellow students with firearms.

According to the Washington Post,

He said that if more people carry concealed weapons at Liberty, it would help the school deter attacks such as the recent mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., that left 14 people dead and more wounded.

“I take very seriously my responsibility to keep you safe in an increasingly dangerous world,” Falwell said.

As he spoke, Falwell was carrying a small pistol in his back pocket, which he later showed to a reporter.
