The Los Angeles police officer accused of having sex with an underage cadet had more than 100 firearms in his home, sources told The Los Angeles Times on Friday.
Some of the guns were modified “assault rifles,” according to sources. It’s unclear if the so-called assault rifles — a misnomer if the firearms are actually semi-automatic rifles — were illegal in the state of California, as authorities are still investigating the matter.
Neighbors of Officer Robert Cain, who lives in Rancho Cucamonga, anonymously told the newspaper that he built his own semi-automatic rifles and had an extensive collection of guns.
Some of the components the 31-year-old officer used were unregistered, which brings the question of legality into the case, according to the Times’ law enforcement sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
