However, certified nutritionist Kristy Titus in her recent article, “Label Lies” in April’s issue of Western Hunter magazine, warns consumers caveat emptor – or buyer beware – when it comes to nutritional supplements. Supplements are not FDA regulated and several manufacturers have recently been found guilty of selling supplements that did not contain the ingredients listed on the labels.

Titus explains in her article one way consumers get ‘duped’ into believing what they are taking is working for them is because of the placebo effect. “The mind is a very powerful force. We’ve all heard of the placebo effect – if you take a supplement expecting a specific result, your mind can work to manifest a similar result within the body or make you believe it happened. The power of placebo combined with the addition of fillers and stimulants has many consumers believing that they are consuming a product that is benefitting their health and wellness.” wrote Titus.
