IWI US, a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., began shipping its new Galil ACE pistol (GAP39-II) in June to shooters who were part of the GAP39 recall and opted for a replacement in lieu of a refund.

Wholesale distributors will began receiving the first commercial quantities of the GAP39-II in the beginning of June.

The recall of all the original Galil ACE (GAP39) pistols was ordered due to the pistol’s receiver, which featured a 3-pin (3-hole) fire control group construction. While these pistols cannot fire automatically, BATF&E has historically held that AK type receivers with 3-pin (3-hole) fire control groups are, by definition, machine gun receivers.

Accordingly, all owners (FFL Dealers or Consumers) of a GAP39 pistol were required to return their firearms to IWI US, for either a full refund or for a replacement with a 2-pin (2-hole) pistol within 90 to 120 days.

The new GAP39-II contains the proper receiver with a 2-pin (2-hole) fire control group construction.
