“Hospitality Major” Shot After Advancing On Cop With Tomahawk
By Bob Owens
When you advance upon an officer with a weapon in your hand as University of North Texas student Ryan McMillan did early Sunday morning, the officer has no other option than to protect himself.
UNT Police officer Cpl. Stephen Bean, a four-year veteran, tried backing away and gave McMillian every opportunity to drop his tomahawk. Instead, McMillain closed to within 5-6 feet before Bean fired. McMillian finally turned away and fell after the final shot.
Police were responding to calls that a man was smashing car windows.
McMillian had just turned 21.
