A disabled Kansas City, MO woman proved that every second counts when police are minutes away.

The homeowner said just after 11PM on Wednesday night, she heard loud knocking and banging at her front door. She grabbed her gun for her protection when she couldn’t see who was trying to enter her house.

And it’s a good thing she did.

The man eventually kicked in her front door, and gaining entrance to her home, charged toward the homeowner, who neighbors say walks with a cane.

At that point, the woman steadied herself and shot the man as he rushed toward her.

KMBC reported:

A longtime friend and neighbor of the woman said she didn’t want to be identified. She said the woman who lives at the house is in her late 40s and uses a cane to get around. The friend said the woman’s two sons sometimes stay at the house, but her toddler granddaughter is there almost all the time.

The friend said she understands the trauma of Thursday night’s situation. She said she understands the choice the woman made.

“If I felt I was being threatened, yeah, I sure would have,” said the friend.
