After an elderly homeowner in his late 70’s was forced to open fire on a home intruder last week, authorities say he will not face any charges stemming from the shooting.

The homeowner and his wife, who is in her late 60’s, were in their San Antonio, TX home on Autumn Dew Drive around 10 a.m. on Thursday when an unknown individual began attempting to break in.

“They were giving the individual who was trying to break into the house commands to stop,” said Doug Greene, SAPD spokesperson.

Greene said they called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers he was armed and ready to defend himself if police could not get to the home in time. The elderly man continued to command the home intruder to stop trying to break into the couple’s home, but the man continued to force his way in, eventually braking the couple’s the door handle.

At that point, the homeowner fired his gun at the intruder through the door.

The suspect, identified by police as 42-year-old Troy Dell Wilson, was struck in the chest.

Although EMS attempted to save Wilson’s life, Green said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
