Head of DNC Uses Anniversary of Sandy Hook to Blast GOP’s ‘Worship of the NRA’ for Blocking ‘Common-Sense’ Gun Control

To mark the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting that saw the murder of dozens, including young children, Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz ripped into Republicans for “their worship of the NRA.”

Wasserman Schultz, a U.S. House member from Florida, made the statement as President Barack Obama is reportedly finalizing plans take executive action on gun control. As of Monday, the White House had no details as to whether an announcement would come this week to coincide with the anniversary of the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

In December 2012, a gunman massacred more than 26 students and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

“The nation grieved with the victims’ families and friends, and we continue to mourn the still unimaginable loss of life,” Wasserman Schultz said. ”But since Sandy Hook, about 90,000 more Americans have died in shootings, and Congress has done nothing to enact meaningful, common-sense gun violence prevention measures.
