Pew Research, a non-partisan research firm, has conducted a poll about gun-control and gun ownership multiple times over the past 20 plus years. The latest poll conducted right around the second anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary shows a large majority of America’s view firearms as the best self-defense tool.

In 1990, Gallup found that 80 percent of those surveyed felt that firearm laws should be much stricter. 71 percent also felt that crime had either stayed the same or decreased.
