A former baggage handler at Austin Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) has pleaded guilty to stealing guns from checked baggage.
According to a Justice Department news release, 26-year-old Ja’Quan Johnson could face up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing items from checked baggage, including a .40 caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol.
The exact charges Johnson pleaded guilty to include one count of theft from an interstate shipment and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
Johnson admitted to stealing seven handguns from checked baggage at ABIA between Nov. 29, 2016 and Feb. 2, 2017.
Johnson will remain on bond while awaiting sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled.
