A former officer with the New York Police Department had his Glock stolen as he tried to stop a robbery outside of a corner grocery store early Saturday morning.
The 49-year-old ex-cop was visiting with a friend at the Chinese Hispanic Grocery in lower Manhattan just after 5 a.m. when he noticed a robbery occurring outside of the business. The man ran outside to intervene, but the three suspects overpowered and assaulted him. During the scuffle, the man’s 9mm handgun fell out of his holster and onto the ground, which knocked out the magazine.
The robbers ran off after grabbing the gun, but the ex-cop was able to grab the magazine before the thieves did. It’s unclear if there was a round in the chamber.
The ex-cop was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries he sustained during the assault, then later released.
