A call about a small dog locked in a hot car in the parking lot of a Gwinnett County, Georgia, Walmart earlier this month led to charges for one man, who had more than just a dog locked in his car.
Brandon Lockett was arrested on half a dozen felonies, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The dog was rescued from the vehicle and appeared unharmed.
Officers responded to the call and promptly found the dog, but as they tried to free the animal, they also noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a backpack full of cocaine and marijuana, conveniently wrapped in diapers for easy distribution, as well as a scale and other such items frequently used in drug sales.
Police also found a gun in the backpack, and in case there was any doubt about who owned the backpack, Lockett’s ID was also tucked away in the backpack.
