Former journalists Katie Couric and Stephanie Soechtig are not smart people.
While making an anti-gun propaganda film called Under the Gun, director Soechtig removed a detailed, three-person response by members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) to one of Couric’s questions which lasted more than four minutes and showed that Couric was ill-informed on the topic.
In a bid to make Couric look less ill-informed, and in fact make the VCDL members look as they’d been caught flat-footed without a ready response to an obvious question, Soechtig instead replaced the actual answer by splicing in eight seconds of film clips taken during breaks in the more than two hours of film to make the VCDL members look like they didn’t have a response.
Then Soechtig got caught.
Then Soechtig admitted fraudulently editing the film.
The Couric admitted she was aware that the fraudulent edit was present in the early versions of the film, and allowed it to make it to the final cut.
