Chicago saw more violence this holiday weekend, with six people killed and 44 wounded in shootings throughout the city.
NBC Chicago reported the shootings occurred between Friday afternoon and early Tuesday morning. A violent surge left 13 people shot on Monday night in less than four hours.
The most recent fatal shooting took place around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, when a 21-year-old man was struck by gunfire while sitting inside of a car. The man was shot in the back and through the heart and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
On Sunday at around 6:30 p.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed on the southwest side of the Lawndale neighborhood. The boy was standing on a walkway with a 16-year-old girl when someone shot at them from a passing vehicle. The boy was shot in the back and later died at a local hospital. The girl was also wounded in the shooting and taken to a local hospital as well.
