Newtown, CT -(AmmoLand.com)- The California Assembly Public Safety Committee, as well as the Senate Public Senate Committee, are scheduled to consider numerous gun control bills tomorrow, June 14.
Contact members of these committees immediately and urge them to vote “NO” on the bills listed below.
The Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider the following bills:
- Senate Bill 880 would expand California’s current definition of “assault weapon,” banning many popular semi-automatic firearms currently legal under California law. Such a measure will do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. The expansion of the current definition would encompass semi-automatic firearms capable of accepting a detachable magazine, and has one or more of the specified attributes (pistol grip, folding or telescoping stock, forward pistol grip, flash suppressor, etc.).
- Senate Bill 1235 would mandate background checks on ammunition purchases and require those selling ammunition to apply for and pay for an “ammunition vendor” license. Such ammunition purchases would also be logged into a database known as the Ammunition Purchase Records File maintained by the Department of Justice and kept for up to two years.
