The Des Moines Register wrote an interesting article on Ben Carson, here’s the gun part that concerns us:

Some Iowans protective of gun rights have ruled out Carson because of a 2013 interview in which he said, when asked if people should be allowed to own semi-automatic weapons: “It depends on where you live.”

“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people,” Carson continued, “and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it.”

Carson has tried to repair the damage with National Rifle Association members, declaring in April that “I am extremely pro-Second Amendment.” He explained that “both of my older cousins, who we lived with, were killed. … As a surgeon, I spent many a night operating on people with gunshot wounds to their heads. All of that is horrible. It is not nearly as horrible as having a population that is defenseless against a group of tyrants who have arms.”

Langston said: “He should have stuck to his guns. We don’t need multi-clip machine guns in our communities.”
