Video Shows How Wetland Storage Capacity is Being “Valued” by Delaware NREC
Delaware -(Ammoland.com)-In a new DNREC YouTube Channel video, “Placing a Value on Wetland Storage,”
DNREC Division of Watershed Stewardship’s Delaware Wetlands Program aims to “get hard numbers” on wetland benefits by using monitoring wells that “value wetland ecosystem services” – which would include quantifying for the first time the carrying capacity of the state’s wetlands to mitigate flooding, according to the DNREC YouTube Channel video that premiered this week.
“We will be monitoring the data coming out of these wells for years to be able to make calculations on water depth and water storage in our wetlands,” Delaware Wetlands program leader Alison Rogerson says in the video.
In “Placing a Value on Wetland Storage,” she says, “We are trying to get across the message that wetlands really hold in flood waters and help mitigate downstream flooding by soaking up that water and releasing it slowly.”
