Guns are selling like hotcakes this summer, specially in New Mexico:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Albuquerque gun store owners say sales are up because residents don’t feel safe.

“People feel like it’s the wild west right now,” said Will Hogsett, with Calibers.

He said some families feel there’s too much violence in the city. Summer sales at Calibers are usually slow, but recent crimes around the metropolitan area are changing that.

“This is kind of an anomaly, because summers are typically slower for our industry and this summer we’ve just seen a ton,” said Hogsett.

Since many are first-time buyers, they’re also getting gun training. Hogsett said being honest about a lack of experience with guns is the best way to keep people safe and receive the necessary training.

“I don’t care if you’re going into another shop or mine, don’t be afraid to ask questions,” said Hogsett. “Don’t be afraid to say, ‘I don’t know.’”
