Would-be robber with pellet gun shot by intended target

A man is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds after he tried to rob a Chicago resident early Sunday morning, only to find out the would-be victim was carrying a legally owned handgun.
Neither the names of the victim or the suspect have been released, but the suspect was described as a 20-year-old male and the victim as a 23-year-old male.
The incident unfolded around 1:20 a.m. in the Oakland neighborhood of the city’s South Side, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The victim was walking to his home when he was approached by the suspect, who displayed what appeared to be a handgun and announced a robbery. But the victim, the robber would soon find out, was not such an easy target.
The victim pulled out a handgun and fired at the suspect, striking him in the abdomen and both legs. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was last listed in stable condition.
The suspect’s weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, police later learned. The incident remains under investigation, but there are no reports of any charges being filed at this time.
