The Springfield Golf and Country Club in Virginia sounds like a nice enough place, but it was the scene of a bizarre attempted armed kidnapping on Monday by a former employee.

Witnesses say Donald Weber, 56, had been acting strangely and making unsettling comments – talking about kidnapping children and eating people’s brains – before he was fired from the golf course. After letting Weber go, his former boss feared Weber would try to harm him and was concerned enough about his safety that he bought a gun for protection.

That gun came in handy Monday when Weber entered the grounds and approached his old boss and another man around 12:30 p.m.

Police say Weber displayed a gun and tossed two sets of handcuffs at the men, telling them to put them on and enter the office in the maintenance building nearby, according to the statement.

Instead, the victims acted like they were cooperating by picking up the handcuffs and walking toward the maintenance building but took off running, the statement says.
