A 24-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection to a fatal shooting at a San Antonio home earlier this month.
Authorities say the shooting occurred during an attempted robbery in the midst of a drug deal, and a witness told police that the suspect shared the details of the killing with him, including the fact that he melted down the gun he used in an attempt to conceal evidence.
Another witness told police that he went to the home of Jarvis Slack, 30, on July 6 to buy drugs. While at the home, the witness said he walked outside to get his phone charger from his car and when he returned to the front of the home, he was confronted by two men who were armed.
The suspects then forced the witness into the home, where they confronted Slack in an attempt to “rob him of ‘Hydro’ marijuana.” During the robbery, one suspect, who was later identified as Austin Gustavo Mendoza, opened fire, striking Slack.
Police were called to the home around 9:20 p.m. and Slack, who was found lying just outside of a sliding glass door in the back of the home, was pronounced dead about 10 minutes later.
