Award-winning Girl Scout project provides new homes for animals in North Bend State Park

West Virginia -(Ammoland.com)- Brianna Bengel has earned the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout (Grades 6-8) can earn: a Silver Award.

Her project was building songbird and wood duck boxes and donating them to North Bend State Park, located near Cairo in Ritchie County.

“It is an honor to accept these nest boxes as a gift to our ongoing nature-based activities,” said Ken Zebo, activities coordinator and naturalist at North Bend. “We are grateful for Brianna’s interest in North Bend State Park and her dedication to wildlife habitat development.”

Brianna is one of several youth and families in Ritchie County that assists with the nest box monitoring program at North Bend State Park.

Six song bird nest boxes and three wood duck boxes built to create nesting habitat were presented to Zebo in June. Zebo said that the boxes were built of cedar and are well built and accurate in design for songbird and wood duck use.
