A pair of pricey parrot thieves lucked out when the beautiful birds’ owner was unable to stop the birdnapping with his shotgun.

The shootout was caught on a surveillance camera at Fernando Pena’s home in Miami, FL. The video shows a man entering the home and snatching the African grey parrots from each of their cages last Thursday. “They took two parrots that I had back there,” Pena said through a translator.

The video shows the suspects truck pull up to Pena’s gate. One of the suspects gets out, bag in hand, and opens the back gate, heading directly toward the bird cages.

As the suspect violently snatched the pricey parrots, which range in price from $1,000 to $2,000 a piece, the homeowner awoke to the sound of his dog barking and the commotion of the burglary.

That’s when he grabbed his shotgun and went out to investigate.

“When I came out here toward the individual, someone out here cocked his weapon and fired, and I returned fire,” Pena said.
