Visiting with Fat Mac, a behemoth rifle in .950 JDJ (VIDEO)
By Chris Eger
Rock Island Auction company has J. D. Jones’ original SSK Industries .950 JDJ rifle on hand, gun no. 1.
A showcase piece, the .950 JDJ was based on the same 20x110mm cannon round used in the M61 Vulcan Gatling-style rotary cannon used to shoot down aircraft. With just a few of the guns ever made, and a shrinking amount of specialty ammo– so special it has a Sporting Use Exception from ATF to get around a Destructive Device classification– anything to do with these huge bench rest guns is exceptionally rare.
But very, very cool.
And word is, RIA plans to actually shoot this thing before they sell it.
