A video recorded by an ACLU legal observer during the August 12 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, shows a man fire a single round toward a counter protester who is spraying fire from a homemade aerosol blowtorch.
Rally-goer Richard Wilson Preston, 52, was arrested Saturday on counts of discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. Preston’s arrest came after the ACLU shared the video with local, state, and federal authorities.
It’s unclear if Preston has a lawyer.
The man with the aerosol torch has not been charged at this time.
Although dozens of people were injured in other violent clashes at the rally, no one was injured by the gunfire or flames during this particular incident.
