NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WITN) – Video posted on social media of a 11-foot, 7-inch tiger shark is causing quite a lot of buzz on one Eastern Carolina coastal town.

The shark was caught Wednesday night at the northern end of North Topsail Beach.

Laura Harrell, who took video of the capture, says people doing research on sharks made the capture around 8:00 p.m.

Kelsey Schmidt, who is part of the shark fishing team Get Bent LBSF, says they kayaked some 300 to 400 yards out to reel in the shark.

He says they typically tag the sharks for research, but says this particular shark was too big to get tagged and then safely released back in the water, so it was just released immediately.

Hear that beach-goers? The beast was released back into the ocean safe and sound.

Something tells me beach attendance will be down today.

Don’t worry beach-goers, that beast was released back into the ocean safe and sound.

Something tells me their will beach attendance will be down today.
