He may think he’s something special on the football field, but to a Florida concealed carrier protecting his wife and child, University of South Florida defensive back Hassan Childs was just a threat with a weapon that needed to be put down, hard.

South Florida defensive back Hassan Childs, recovering from three gun shot wounds, was reportedly arrested in the hospital Monday after being involved in an apparent road-rage incident off campus on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old, who is in stable condition, is facing three counts of aggravated assault and one count of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to multiple reports.

On Saturday around 11:15 p.m., Tampa police received a phone call from Jovanni Jimenez, 26, who told the cops that a man had pointed a gun at him, his wife and child at the Eagles Point Apartments at Tampa Palms.

Jimenez said he then took out a gun and shot the man in self defense. The man was later identified as Childs, who was hit three times in the torso and upper arm.

Both men have concealed weapons permits, police told ESPN.

On Sunday, football coach Charlie Strong said the team was “deeply concerned.”
