Uber Eats driver claims self-defense in customer shooting (VIDEO)

An Uber Eats driver said he acted in self-defense when he opened fire on a customer during a delivery in Atlanta on Saturday.
“This is a case where my client had no choice but to defend himself,” attorney Jackie Patterson said on behalf of Robert Bivines.
Bivines, 37, turned himself into authorities on Monday after the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit secured an arrest warrant charging him with felony murder.
Over the weekend, Bivines delivered food to Ryan Thornton, 30, around 11:30 pm, but during the delivery, the two exchanged words and Bivines shot Thornton, police said.
Patterson explained Thornton was irate that it took so long for his food to arrive and acted aggressively toward Bivines. Then, as Bivines walked away, Thornton made a threatening move.
“He turned around, put his hand in his pocket and said, ‘I’m going to fuck you up,’” Patterson said and added that Bivines didn’t want to wait to see what Thornton was pulling out of his pocket, so he defended himself.
Uber told reporters that Bivines had passed a background check and worked for the company Uber Eats, which is a food delivery service, less than a week, but they removed his access to their app.
