27 shootings took place this past weekend across Chicago, leaving five lives lost and two young girls struggling to survive.

The two girls have been identified as 11-year-old Takiya Holmes and 12-year-old Kanari Bowers. Both girls are in critical condition.

Kanari was injured in the West Englewood area while playing with friends on a playground. Takiya was injured less than 30 minutes later in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood sitting with family members in a van. Both girls were unintended victims, shot in crime-laden areas of the city know for heavy gang activity. No suspects in either incident involving Takiya or Kanari have been caught.

Andrew Holmes, Takiya’s cousin and community activist, is offering a $1,000 reward for information regarding the person(s) behind his cousin’s shooting.

This weekend’s violence spree started Friday evening, lasting through the early hours of Monday morning; with most of the violent attacks taking place Saturday.

Family members and friends of victims all across the Chicagoland area are asking for solutions to help stop the violence. Instead of seeing the violence curbed in the neighborhoods in which they live, they are watching it soar.
