The Transportation Security Administration said Thursday the single-week record for the number of firearms discovered in carry-on bags set last month has been broken.
The TSA Blog reported that, for the week of July 24-31, a record 96 guns were discovered in carry-on luggage in airports throughout the country. Of those firearms, 85 were loaded and 26 had a round chambered. The figure surpassed the 89 gun benchmark set two weeks before that and the 82 gun high reached in May.
“Firearm possession laws vary by state and locality,” the agency said. “Travelers bringing firearms to the checkpoint can be arrested and fined up to $11,000. Travelers should familiarize themselves with state and local firearm laws for each point of travel prior to departure.”
