Trauma Surgeon Weighs In On 9mm vs .40 Caliber

By now most people have heard about the FBI deciding to switch from .40 caliber back to 9mm. Since this decision was made back in October, there has been a lot of debate by professionals and internet warriors alike. However, this in-depth article may be the best one I have read on the subject. Primarily because the author, Sydney Vail, M.D., FACS, is probably the most qualified person to speak on the matter. How qualified? Well he’s just chief of the division of trauma surgery and surgical critical care and director of the tactical medicine program at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. He’s also the medical director of Tactical Trauma Immediate Response (Tac-TIR) Group, Cowtown, Peoria, AZ; and director of the SWAT Tactical Medical Program for Arizona DPS; and a senior instructor for the International School of Tactical Medicine.

If he’s not qualified to tackle this subject, I don’t know who is.
