The CMA Awards were, as the Association hoped, largely free of gun talk.

An emotional tribute to the Las Vegas shooting victims was delivered by host Carrie Underwood; the words to the song “Softly and Tenderly” barely making it past her lips as the faces of those killed floated across the screen.

But, to many liberals’ dismay, no calls for gun control followed – at least not until after the awards show concluded.

In an interview with Billboard, published the day after the event, country music power couple, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, called out the NRA and announced their support for increased gun control (emphasis mine).

Country stars, on ­average, are more ­liberal than their fans, and most keep their political ­opinions to ­themselves to avoid ­alienating anyone. Speaking less than two weeks after a man with an arsenal of legally purchased military-grade guns shot and killed 58 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas (but before the Sutherland Springs, Texas, church ­shooting that killed 26), McGraw and Hill both make it clear: They support gun control.
