When his daughter and her little girl moved back home after being threatened repeatedly by her ex-boyfriend, it’s safe to assume this 76-year-old Albuquerque, NM dad probably never expected to have to defend her or her daughter’s life.

Thankfully, he was ready, willing and able to do just that.

Police say a call came in Thursday morning reporting a shooting at the man’s residence in northeast Albuquerque and when authorities arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department’s investigation of the incident, it was 40-year-old Lee Brandenburg’s history of making threats to his ex-girlfriend that prompted her to move in with her dad.

Early Thursday morning, an armed Brandenburg was actively trying to break into the homeowner’s residence to get to his ex-girlfriend. After Brandenburg broke through the residence’s front window in the living room, the father shot the home intruder several times.

In a statement made Friday, Police Spokesman Tanner Tixier said, “Fearing for the safety of himself, his daughter and his granddaughter, the 76-year-old man shot Brandenburg numerous times.”
