A Tennessee lawmaker pushing for expanded background checks went downtown Wednesday and set up a lemonade stand in an effort to show how easy it is to purchase a gun.
House Democratic Caucus Leader Rep. Mike Stewart sold lemonade for 75 cents a cup, cookies two for $1, and an AK-47 (with no background check) for $700. Stewart reportedly purchased the rifle online specifically to outfit the lemonade stand, but, oddly enough, he didn’t have any takers for the weapon. It’s unclear if there were any lemonade or cookie sales.
On the same day he set up the lemonade stand, Stewart presented a bill for expanded background checks, but it was quickly shot down. Nonetheless, Stewart said it “will pass one day.”
