Teacher with 25 yrs on job put on leave after spotted with gun at school (VIDEO)

A Oregon science teacher accused of having a gun at school is on leave for potentially violating the district’s policy, not criminal law.
Sprague High School teacher Richard Johnston, a 25-year career educator with the Salem-Keizer Public Schools district, was allegedly spotted Friday with a gun on his person at school. While police advise there is no criminal investigation into Johnston, he is in hot water with school administrators.
“It is against the Salem-Keizer Public Schools policy to carry any sort of weapon, concealed or not, permit or not on our campuses,” Lillian Govus, the Salem-Keizer School District communications director, told KOIN 6 News.
Lt. Chris Baldridge with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said those with concealed carry permits in the state can legally carry on a campus but the school can set their own policy.
“If a public building has identified itself as a gun-free zone and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was called as a result of a weapon being seen, a deputy would respond, confirm the permit holder had a valid license and simply ask the person to leave and potentially not return,” said Baldridge.
