Sweeping the woods with an Oberndorf-made Mauser broomhandle (VIDEO)

In an effort to keep the land around the homestead nice and clean, Hickok45, takes a century-old vintage C96 “Broomhandle” Mauser for a walk innawoods.
Designed by the brothers Feederle, the semi-automatic, short-recoil pistol uses a fixed box magazine held forward of the trigger guard. This magazine was loaded by a stripper clip fed through the top of the breech and, while many “Red Nine” models were produced in 9mm Parabellum, most “Construktion 96” pistols were in 7.63x25mm. Subsequently made in China and Spain among others, the broomhandle — so named due to its distinctive grip, remained in production past WWII.
Today, it is one of the most coveted of collectible handguns due in large part to it’s connection to a certain stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder.
The gun Hickok has is a wartime commercial model made during the First World War and captured in the Second, and it is a great working piece of history that still has the awkward but interesting wooden holster that doubles as a stock.
“If it was good enough for Han Solo, it’s good enough for me,” says Hickok.
