A 39-year-old man was shot and killed as he attempted to break into a San Antonio home earlier this month, but police say after the shooting, they discovered the suspect had a 7-year-old boy sitting in the getaway car.
The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. on May 12. Police say the resident, a female, was asleep when she heard the suspect, James Carney, break in through a window. The woman grabbed her gun and fired two shots, striking Carney, who was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Carney’s 7-year-old son was found in the car driven by his father. The boy was physically unharmed and authorities say he will get the help he needs.
It’s unclear if Carney knew the woman or if the child witnessed the shooting.
