Sunday Hunting with Guns Now Legal in North Carolina

Firearm hunters in North Carolina will now have the opportunity for an extra day of hunting each week, as the state ends its long-standing ban on gun hunting on Sundays.

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed H.B. 640, also known as the Outdoor Heritage Act, into law on Wednesday to put the long-debated Sunday hunting ban to an end.

“The outdoors has always been an integral part of our way of life and this bill has a number of measures that will improve the stewardship of our natural resources,” said McCrory in a press release.

The expanding of hunting to Sundays has been opposed by some for religious reasons, and the new law does come with some restrictions. Hunting will not be allowed at the same time as church services from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Hunters will also be limited to private property, and not within 500 yards of a house or church. Hunting will still not be allowed in Wake or Mecklenburg counties.

News of the law change resulted in mixed reactions on a Facebook page dedicated to legalizing hunting on Sundays in North Carolina. There were posts for and against the new law change.
