A customer who foiled an attempted robbery Thursday evening at a Fresno Starbucks when he whacked the robber with a chair is being hailed as a hero.
“It’s not something we recommend. In this case, it was a good outcome,” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. “No one died as a result of this incident but very well could have. But nonetheless, he’s a hero — there’s no question.”

The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. when the suspect, Ryan Flores, demanded cash from the clerk after entering the coffee shop with a knife and what was later determined to be a toy gun.
But before Flores could fill his dollar store bag with cash, customer Cregg Jerri walked in, saw what was happening, and grabbed a chair. Jerri swung at Flores, knocking him to the ground, then the two tussled. During the altercation, Jerri was stabbed multiple times before he wrestled the knife from Flores, who eventually ran off.
Flores was located soon thereafter and Jerri is expected to be okay.
