When Springfield Armory introduced the first XD-S single stack pistol at SHOT six years ago, it was a departure for the Illinois gun maker and drew plenty of attention. But slim concealed carry guns had been and are about the hottest segment of the handgun market. So the XD-S proved to be wildly popular and Springfield added 9mm and .40 S&W versions to the line in their more compact 3.3-inch model. The slightly longer XD-S with a 4-inch slide comes in 9mm and .45.

Now Springfield is updating their most popular handgun by lowering the bore axis, shaving a millimeter or two off the slide width and adding a rear sight that you can rack one-handed against your belt or a hard surface should the need arise. They’re offering the new XD-S Mod. 2 in three configurations including tritium night sights and a laser-equipped model.
